Northern Region

The Northern Region of the Square Wheels Club was formed following a chat between WBro Laurence Jones and WBro Peter Norbury. We thought it a good idea to bring together Square Wheels Club Members who live in and around the North of England so that we can co-ordinate Social Events and arrange cars and members to man the Square Wheels Club stand at shows etc.

Bro Laurence Jones is a past Master of Horton Lodge 8528 (2020 - 2022) and concentrates on organising the Social Events and meet-ups, whilst WBro Peter Norbury, a member of Lodge of St Johns, Stockport, has used his co-ordinating skills to get members and their vehicles to attend various shows.

Since 2017 members of the Square Wheels Northern Region have been invited to attend a number of Social Events that have been organised for Horton Lodge, for the Jaguar XJS Soft Tops Club run by WBro Laurence and the JEC Greater Manchester Region which he's their Social Secretary.

We have been for several visits to Café Cargo near Colne for Brunch by the Canal, and we've always enjoyed good food and good company together. On a couple of occasions the weather has been so good some attendees stayed right thorough till late afternoon and after a gentle walk along the canal they settled down to afternoon tea and cake too.

There will be many more of these events in 2020 so please do get in touch with WBro Laurence Jones, if you have a Classic Car and would like to join us.

Already planned for 2020 are :

  * Sunday 5th April - Attendance at Middleton Craft and Food Market and a drive up to Ferrari's, Preston, for Sunday Lunch

  * Saturday 20th June - Brunch at Cafe Cargo, Colne
  * Sunday 21st June - Lakes Classic Car Show, Grassmere

17th June 2019
Lakes Classic Car Show

The Square Wheels Club Northern Region had 3 members attend this charity Classic Car Show

We had such a good time that we'd secured a much larger plot for 2019's show with the expectation of having the Square Wheels stand centrally between the XJS Soft Tops Stand and Pete's Austin A35/A40 Stand - making it so much easier to have us on hand to chat to visitors about Freemasonry and the Square Wheels Club. Alas, with so many good ideas circumstances go against them and the 2019 show has been cancelled.

The Square Wheels Club had a stand at this two day show in2018, which was a great success thanks to the efforts of WBro Peter Norbury and several other Northern Region members.

Alas, as with so many good ideas circumstances can go against them, and the 2019 show has been cancelled with little prospect of the event happening again.

1st October 2017

As reported in the Oldham District Newsletter - November 2017

“I am a member of the Masonic Classic Vehicle Club, and am involved with organising various meet ups for members in the Northern Region. On Sunday 1st October, along with Wbro Peter Norbury and his wife in their Mini Pickup, I attended the final event of the Classic 300 Series at Brooklands Race Track in my 1993 XJS Convertible. To help mark the Tercentenary of Freemasonry in England the Classic 300 series were a number of Fun Runs held across the whole country. They started in May 2017 with our Grand Master, HRH The Duke of Kent, at The Long Walk in Windsor waving off participants as they started a 25 trip of the Berkshire countryside.

The Fun Runs did not journey from Masonic Centre to Masonic Centre, but rather traveled to motoring venues carrying a gavel made from the con-rod from a racing Jaguar.

If any brethren are interested in joining the Square Wheels Club then please get in touch with me, or visit the Club's website www.classic300.org.uk
